The Museums of Hydra
The Municipality of Hydra welcomes you to the island, providing you not only with seas and mountains, but also with very beautiful museums, where through them, you will learn about the history of Hydra!
Starting with the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra, which houses the archival-museum service, the library and operates daily for historical researchers and visitors to the island. The building is located near the Port Authority, on the east side of the Port.
We continue with the ecclesiastical and Byzantine museum, which is located approximately in the middle of the Port. It is a three-aisled basilica with a dome, the aisles of which are separated from each other by colonnades. The marble iconostasis and the rich interior decoration of the Church are impressive, as are the two marble bell towers of the Monastery. It operates during a specific period, from April 1 to November 15, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
and is located in the center of the port of Hydra.
Then, on the west side of Hydra, we have the Annex of the national historical museum, which is divided into three floors and is worth visiting.
Finally, at the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art & History
“George Kountouriotis” located on the hillside, you will find heirlooms of the Kountouriotis family and newer exhibits related to the history of Hydra.
