The Museums of Hydra

The Municipality of Hydra welcomes you to the island, providing you not only seas and mountains, but also very beautiful museums, through which you will learn about the history of Hydra!

Starting with the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra, which houses the archival-museum service, the library and operates daily for historical researchers and visitors of the island. The building is located near the Port Authority, on the eastern side of the harbour.

We continue with the Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum, which is located about halfway across the harbour. It is a three-aisled basilica with a dome, the aisles of which are separated by colonnades. The marble iconostasis and the rich interior decoration of the church are impressive, as are the two marble bell towers of the monastery. It is open during a specific period, from April 1 to November 15, except Mondays from 10 am to 5 pm.
and is located in the centre of the port of Hydra.

Then, on the west side of Hydra, we have the Annex of the National History Museum, which is divided into three floors and is worth a visit.

Finally, at the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art & History
"Georgios Kountouriotis", located on the hillside, you will find relics of the Kountouriotis family and newer exhibits related to the history of Hydra.
